Rupture and deflation in saline implants
In the world of breast enhancement surgery, it is a known fact that saline implants have a higher risk of rupture occurrence than silicone implants. Even if you get the implants with the highest quality, those will eventually rupture as well. The good thing is that in the event of rupture and deflation, you can always have a correction surgery.
Aside from aging which is inevitable, saline implant rupture can occur due to the following reasons:
- Low quality or damaged implants were used
- An accident had caused breast damage
- Too much outer pressure
- Incorrect placement of the saline implants
- Friction
- Surgical Errors
- Implant squeezing
- Mammography
- Capsular contracture
- Unskilled surgeon
Luckily, when the implant rupture or deflate, the substances are not harmful to your body. However, your breasts will change shape in a couple days because the saline solution will leak and will be naturally absorbed by your body.
Although there are many studies performed, they’ve brought different findings. That’s why it is quite hard to determine the actual life expectancy of the implants, especially since some of the discoveries conflict with the real-life cases that the implant producers have encountered. According to manufacturers, the rate of implant rupture is between 0.2-1%.
