Decreasing swelling after liposuction
Though there are different types of liposuction, all of them give the patient a common condition after the intervention, this is swelling.
Liposuction involves the use of cannula that passes through the subcutaneous tissue. It causes disruption of the lymphatic channels thus resulting in cellular injury. Swelling is the body’s normal reaction to this condition.
There would be an accumulation of fluids in the areas where the cannula had passed through. It would be quite difficult for the body to remove the fluid because of the damage on the lymphatic channels. The swelling is visible and it can last for a few weeks. Some patients even suffer swelling for months after the surgery. Due to certain factors, there are patients that heal slower than the others.
To lessen the discomfort of swelling and to avoid further complications, surgeons always require their patient to wear compression garments for a recommended period of time, along with a set of necessary precautions and ways to take care of the body and the treated area properly. The patients are also advised to move around slightly to regain proper blood circulation. There is a lymphatic massage as well can be beneficial in order to get a smoother and more even result. If the swelling lasts longer than you are told by your doctor, paying a visit to the clinic is also highly recommended.
